Top Tips for Your Group

Thinking of setting up a small group so you can enjoy Let’s Discover IT together?

Here are a few things to consider:

  • Plan for a 45 minute session
  • Groups of 2 – 8 people are ideal
  • Each person should have access to a tablet, computer, laptop or smart phone
  • Alternatively, connect to large screen TV and watch Let’s Discover IT sessions together with one individual doing the ‘driving’
  • Check that enough comfortable seating is available
  • Check that the lighting in the room is good
  • Try to limit external noise
  • Connect to the wifi in the room
  • Check that the volume on devices is at the right level – check website or phone is not muted
  • Consider whether additional speakers added to the large screen TV (or a laptop if viewing on one device for the whole group) would boost volume to ensure all members can hear the audio
  • Check with each person they have optimal viewing. They can click on the ‘full screen’ button if they see one on a video or website or find ‘Display the window in full screen’ in the options list (or use F11)
  • Remind each person that some websites require you to ‘accept cookies’ before you go further – they need to click on the ‘manage’ button to decline or accept the items listed
  • Some YouTube videos have adverts – remind each person to click on ‘Skip Advert’ when this message appears (usually in just a few seconds) and they will get right back to where they left off
  • Questions can be asked about each session, for example: What websites did you enjoy? What was your favourite? What hobbies or interests do you have?
